I had visited this location a number of times but this time dark storm clouds hung overhead with heavy showers in the distance. The edge of the weather front was clearly visible on the horizon and a strong wind made the lighting unpredictable. As the sun slowly dipped a break in the clouds illuminated the hillside which shone golden from long grass waving in the breeze. This was an impressive contrast to the dark ominous sky above. I only had a few exhilarating minutes to record the scene before the sun finally dropped behind a ridge.
I settled down to watch the after-glow contented with the scene that had unfolded. The silence of the deserted hillside was only broken by the nearby sound of a ghostly bagpipe drawing cows from surrounding fields like the 'Pied Piper of Hamlet'. A strange but memorable end to the day.
